1 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”
– Ephesians 6: 1-3
Today we are going to learn about what kind of attitude God wants us to have and what it means to honor our fathers and especially our mothers. This is true for foster parents, grandparents, or whoever takes care of you as a parent would. Today we are going to talk a lot about moms because after all it is Mother’s Day.
Side note: Did you know that your parents are a gift to you from the Lord? Have you thanked the Lord for your parents today? If not, it’s a good time to do so today and every day when you pray.
Ephesians 6: 1-3: 1 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”
The Bible specifically mentions the words: obey, honor, go well with you, and live. These words are a promise from God and have a lot of meaning. Let’s see what each word means.
Our parents, especially our mothers want what’s best for us. They will always. God wants us to have an attitude that is always ready, always willing, and always wanting to do the right thing to obey and honor our parents.
Our mothers do so much for us each and every day. What are you going to do for your mother today?
